Gators Clinch Home Playoff Game With Win Over Hiram
Feb 19, 2003 The Allegheny College women's basketball team is
guaranteed a home game in the first round of the North Coast Athletic
Conference playoffs after defeating Hiram College at the Wise Center
on Wednesday night, 76-60. Allegheny jumped out to a 15-2 lead and
had 37 points off of turnovers as they rolled their record to 12-12
and 10-5 in the NCAC.
Freshman forward Courtney Steding (McDonald, Pa./Fort
Cherry) led the Gators with 12 points, but the story of this game was
the Allegheny defense. The Gators forced 26 turnovers and had 16 steals
resulting in 37 points on turnovers and 14 fast break points. Every
player on the Allegheny roster scored at least two points.
Freshman forward Kristin Lyzen (Brook Park, Ohio/Midpark)
pulled down a game-high eight rebounds for Allegheny. Freshman forward
Beth Van Parys (Erie Pa./Villa Maria Academy) chipped in with 10 points.
Allegheny ran out to a 13-point lead with 12:31 left in
the first half. Hiram never got closer than six and the Gators got ahead
by as much as 31 before taking the 16-point victory.
Amanda Hummel led the Terriers with 16 points and Terra
Roane added 14.
The Gators next game is scheduled for Saturday, February
22, at 1:00 p.m. as they host Ohio Wesleyan.
