Miles Posts Crazy Eights As Gators Beat Wooster

Sophomore guard Raelynn Miles (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) posted career-highs with eight rebounds, eight assists and eight steals and also had eight points for the Allegheny College women's basketball team as they posted a 75-65 win over conference rival Wooster College at the David Wise Center on Wednesday night. Gator freshman guard Caitlin Murtagh (Bethel Park, Pa./Seton-LaSalle) scored a career-high 17 points, going 5-of-10 from the field and 6-9 from the charity stripe.

Also n double-digits for Allegheny (6-10, 4-3 NCAC) were freshman forward Courtney Steding (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) with 15 points and sophomore forward Meredith McDonough (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) with 12 points.

Wooster (8-7, 3-5 NCAC) turned the ball over 10 times in the first ten minutes of the game as the Gators built an early 17-3 lead. Allegheny extended the lead to 20 on a lay-up by McDonough with 2:58 left in the half. The Scots fought back and cut the lead to 12 when Jen Flavin's desperation three went in off the glass as time expired in the first half.

The Gators continued to hold a double-digit through the second half and led by 12, 58-46, with 9:05 remaining. Wooster then went on a 15-3 run to tie the game at 61-61 with 4:51 left. Undaunted, the Gators scored the next eight points, and by the time the Scots answered with a three-pointer, the lead remained at five. Allegheny hit their free throws in the final minute to take a 75-65 win.

Kristen Rice and Alexis Louttit shared top-scoring honors for Wooster as each had 14. Rice scored her points from the field, going 6-of-8, while Louttit made good at the free-throw line, hitting 12-of-16.

Allegheny shot 51.9 percent in the second half and 45.2 percent in the game while holding Wooster to 36.8 percent shooting. The Gators had an advantage in the paint, 42-18, and in fast break points, 14-4.

Allegheny's next game is scheduled for Saturday, January 25, as they play host to Kenyon in an NCAC match-up. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Wise Center.
