Late Gator Run Comes Up Short Against Case Western Reserve
Dec 28, 2002 The Allegheny College women's basketball team made
a late-game 11-2 run but it wasn't enough as Case Western Reserve took
an 84-71 win in Cleveland on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans (5-3)
had six players in double figures led by Keesha Allen with 19 points
on 8-of-14 shooting.

An up-tempo pace saw Case Western pull away from the Gators in the
closing minutes of the first half. Allegheny tied the game at 26-26
with just over six minutes left, but the Spartans went on a 14-6 run
to end the half leading 40-32. The Gators had a balanced attack with
seven players scoring at least two points in the first stanza. Courtney
Steding (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) led the way with seven points
on 3-of-6 shooting from the field. Keesha Allen had nine points for
Case Western.
The game was even through much of the second half with Case continuing
to hold the lead. The Spartans built a 14-point lead, 66-52 with 7:23
left in the game. Allegheny responded with an 11-2 run fueled by two
steals and a three-pointer by Raglani at the 4:31 mark to make it a
68-63 game. However, Jasmine Rowan hit two three-pointers for Case Western
to end the run and propel the Spartans to the 84-71 win.
The Gators shot 51.6 percent from the field in the second half and
42.9 percent for the game. Case Western hit at a 44.9 percent clip for
the game and made 18-of-23 free throws compared to 7-of-9 chances for
Allegheny. Case Western Reserve held a 47-31 advantage on the boards,
including 20 offensive rebounds.
The Gators next game is scheduled for Friday, January 3, at 5:30 p.m.
when they play host to Earlham in a North Coast Athletic Conference
