snowboardSocial Activities at Allegheny

Allegheny College provides a variety of opportunities for students, faculty and staff to interact, exchange ideas and foster relationships with one another. Students are involved in planning and attending activities such as dances, lectures, concerts, comedians and films. Gator Activities Programming (GAP) is the all-college programming board designed to provide diverse social events for students and the campus community. GAP events include comedians, bands and novelty acts throughout the semester, a series of films shown prior to their release on video, Afterhours events in McKinleys, major events such as Wingfest, Casino Night, and Springfest, and major concerts.

The Office of Student Activities plays an integral role in the student social experience at Allegheny College. The office works with all student organizations on campus to provide a social outlet that supports all student interests, including Allegheny Christian Outreach, fraternities and sororities, the Association for the Advancement of Black Culture, Grounds for Change coffee house, Union Latina, the Office of Residence Life, Allegheny Outing Club, A5, and many others.

Public Events
The Public Events Committee, a subcommittee of the Campus Life Committee, is responsible for bringing music, dance, theatre, and special events to campus as cultural contributions to life at Allegheny. The Centerstage Series brings internationally acclaimed artists to Allegheny. Some featured artists in the past and some upcoming artists include Ballet Hispanico, National Theatre of the Deaf, the Flying Karamazov Brothers, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Richie Havens, St. Petersburg State Ice Ballet, Capitol Steps, and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Allegheny students receive a 50 percent discount on Centerstage subscription fees. Students wishing to join the Public Events Committee should submit an application to ASG for consideration.

In addition, academic departments and student organizations sponsor a number of lectures and performances throughout the year.

Recreation
A wide variety of sports/activities are available for members of the college community. These activities range from purely recreational to highly competitive. A significant portion of the College community participates in the following activities: basketball, variations of basketball, bowling, flag football, golf, indoor soccer, pool, racquetball, soccer, softball, squash, swimming, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, a century club for walkers, and a 100 mile club for runners.
