Connections with the Leadership Program: Allegheny advances the philosophy that service is leadership, and that leadership is service. At leadership programs offered each semester, students actively learn about relevant topics and have an opportunity to put their leadership skills into action by participating in service.
Connections with Residence Life: Resident Assistants and Resident Directors participate in a morning of service during their late summer training. Every RA is asked to plan a service project during the academic year for their residents. The Office of Residence Life sponsors a Christmas Stocking Project in which members of the Allegheny community fill stockings for disadvantaged children in the Meadville area. The project earned a model program award from the American College Personnel Association.
Connections with Freshmen Orientation: Many students spend part of Orientation Week participating in an Allegheny Adventure community service project. Groups of new students meet each other while playing games with at-risk youth, packing school bags full of supplies, and distributing gift boxes to elderly people.
Connections with Faculty: Numerous faculty have integrated a component of community service into their courses as part of a growing campus-wide interest in service-learning.
