Planned Giving

Planned gifts can increase your current income or provide additional retirement income. They can also provide a current tax deduction and a generous gift to Allegheny College.

Bequests -- A bequest, or giving through your will, is one way through which everyone can make a gift to Allegheny College. After providing for family, friends, and others, a gift to Allegheny College may take several forms, including a bequest of a percentage of the estate, of a specific dollar amount or specific property, or of a percent of the proceeds of a retirement plan. A bequest to Allegheny earns your estate a charitable deduction equal to the full value of the gift.

It is very important that an estate gift be correctly worded so that your intentions may be fully carried out by the College. The Office of Gift Planning is available to work with you and your attorney in planning an estate gift to Allegheny College.

Life Income Gifts -- A variety of life income plans are available for donors who wish to make a gift to the College, but would like to receive quarterly payments to supplement their other income. This type of gift often increases your current income to more than double or triple what is presently received from a particular asset. If funded with appreciated stock, you avoid the payment of capital gains tax and may be entitled to an up-front income tax deduction.

Allegheny has both Fixed Income Plans (providing a secure, never-changing annual income) and Variable Payment Plans (providing the potential to increase payments to keep up with inflation).

The staff in the Office of Gift Planning is available to assist you, provide you with information and guidance, and to answer any questions you may have regarding your gift. Inquiries can be directed to Julianne Weibel Foltz, Esq. in the Office of Gift Planning at (814) 332-2735 or jfoltz@allegheny.edu.
