Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)

·        The committee held a short discussion regarding Make a Difference Day.

 

·        There was a discussion regarding the RA “headhunting” issue.  The group did not see it as much of a problem.  Mr. Lee stated that he is available should it become one in the future.

 

·        SAAC Athlete-of-the-Year/Athlete-of-the-Month

o       The committee decided that it would like to begin selecting an Athlete-of-the-Month award, beginning retroactively for the month of September.

o       The process for the Athlete-of-the-Month is as follows…

§         Each team that has a contest during that month will nominate one person.

§         Those nominations will be forwarded to the SID for statistics gathering the week before the voting meeting.

§         At the time of voting, a team representative will present their nominee and help explain why that nominee deserves consideration.

§         Each team that does not have a contest during the month in question will vote for their choice.

§         At the end of the school year, SAAC will choose an Athlete-of-the-Year.

 

·        Meeting Dates – The committee decided to hold two meetings a month rather than one.  They will now be conducted on the second Tuesday of the month at 12:30 and the final Friday of the month at 12:15, to allow maximum participation from student-athletes.  Meetings will remain 45 minutes in length.

 

·        Sarah Kuhn and Kellyn Rielly gave the NCAC SAAC report.  Some of the discussion included fan behavior at sporting events and the effect the shortened seasons have had on the various teams at Allegheny.  Feedback included…

o       Baseball – team had to have longer practices squeezed into a shorter amount of time – has possibly affected academics

o       Men’s Soccer – had to do more captain’s practices to prepare – practices were conducted without a coach or trainer

o       Women’s Soccer – had a shorter preseason – noted that the reduced seasons have had a particularly negative effect on teams that have to do cuts – less time to figure out rosters

 

·        Regional Leadership Conference – Coach Raymond explained what the Regional Leadership Conference is about.  Sign-ups were held at the end of the meeting.
