Meeting Minutes

*Reviewed minutes from prior meeting, 12/03/04

 

I.  Mr. Lee presents track options

            A. Will attempt to make a monthly update

            B. When the company is decided SAAC will be included in the meeting

            C. Possible start dates

                        -Early March (2-4 month span)

                        -Maybe sooner

 

II.  Female SAAC Rep. needed for NCAC SAAC meeting Sunday at OWU

            A. Lindsey Tupman volunteered

 

III.  Review Minutes

A.     SAAC website on track – will be up and running within two weeks

 

IV.  Dec. Sports Athlete of the Month

            A. Postpone votes for nominees – only received one female nominee (basketball)

B.     Double up Jan./Dec. at next meeting

 

V.  Football Issue

            A. Not allowed a ball in 16 practices (Spring Season)

                        1. Volleyball/Soccer allowed balls

                        2. Only our conference not allowed

                        3.  Reasons why not-

                                    a. Knock back reform package

                                    b. Increase demand for fields/trainers

                        4.  Mr. Lee's Policy

                                    a. "We should never be more strict" – than the rest of the country

                                    b. President voted for use of balls

                                    c. Could hurt recruiting possibilities

                                    d. Hope to get it reinstated

                        5.  This issue will be discussed at the meeting

                        6.  Decision made with no student input

                        7.  Two Sport Athlete Issue

                                    a. 16 practices + captain's practice= more time

                                    b. Two sports are doable

                        8.  Why is football singled out?

 

VI.  Michelle and Seth's trip to leadership conference

            A.  Issue of betting on teams

                        1. Can't bet on athletics- pro/amateur

                                    a. Can be kicked off team if caught

            B.  Hazing Issue

                        1. Don't Do It

            C.  Sport Support Plan

                        1. "Gold Games"

                                    a. Pair teams off

                                    b. Team picks a couple important games

                                    c.  Brother or sister team build up advertisement and also attend

                        2.  Raymond, Lee, and Reimer all supported idea

                        3. Problems

                                    a. Need guaranteed support

                                    b. Track has no home meets

                                    c. Golf not really a spectator sport

                        4.  Timeline

                                    a. Talk to teams- pick a couple of sports and dates

                                    b. Fall sports get to pick since doing work

                                    c. Pick a sport don't normally attend

                                    d. By next meeting bring in dates or teams
