Place Breaks Own School Record in 5k

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Allegheny College senior Ryan Place (Meshoppen, Pa./Elk Lake) broke his own school record in the 5,000m run and landed an NCAA automatic qualifying mark while competing at the North Central College Last Chance Meet on Thursday. Several other members of the Gator squad also competed on Friday.

Place finished in a time of 14:26.52, beating his old record of 14:31.02 set back in 2007. His mark also gave him the fourth fastest time in Division III to date.

Place will next compete at Division III Nationals held in Oshkosh, Wisc. from May 22-24.

Also competing for Allegheny, Craig Ball (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) finished the 800m in a time of 1:55.87. Tony Dipre (Twinsburg, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) placed eighth in the 1,500m invitational with a time of 3:55.15 while Joe McMahon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) turned in a sixth-place finish in the triple jump (13.81m). Frank Tupta (University Heights, Ohio/Hawken) was 14th in the shot put with a toss of 13.11m
