Second Annual Gator InviteMEADVILLE, Pa. - Over 45 teams from all divisions around the area along with some of the top individual competitors from throughout the nation competed at the second annual Gator Invitational hosted by Allegheny College on Friday. Highlighting the day was an Olympic Trial provisional pole vault of 18 feet, four and one half inches by Allegheny alum Jeremy Scott. In addition, 26 Frank B. Fuhrer Field records fell while Gator senior Liz Earley (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) matched her school-record performance in the process of setting a new field mark in the hammer throw (55.64m). For Allegheny, Tony Dipre (Twinsburg, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) landed an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark (3:54.07) in the 1,500m run. Craig Ball (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) ran a 1:55.99 in the 800m to finish fourth while Ryan Place (Meshoppen, Pa./Elk Lake) placed fifth in the 5,000m with a season-best time of 14:35.96. Joe McMahon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) also placed fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 13.76m while Frank Tupta (University Heights, Ohio/Hawken) took sixth in the shot put (15.85m). Next for Allegheny is the North Central College Last Chance Meet on May 15-16 and the NCAA Division III Nationals in Oshkosh, Wisc. on May 22-24.
