Allegheny Defeats Wittenberg in Spring Opener

ERIE, Pa. - The Allegheny women's tennis team (7-3, 1-0 NCAC) opened their spring campaign with a 7-2 victory over Wittenberg at the Westwood Tennis Center on Saturday. The win was the first for the Gator women over the Tigers since the 2000-01 season.

The Gators picked up wins at #1 and #2 doubles behind the teams of Lauren Kristofco (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle)/Sara Longo (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) and Kristyn Paone (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy)/Jackie Conrad (Fallston, Md./Fallston), each winning 8-4.

Kristofco went on to earn a 6-0, 6-1 win over Allison Earhart at #1 while Paone defeated Elizabeth Micheletti 6-1, 6-4 at #2.

Longo won 6-4, 6-3 at #3 while Tamara Prairie (Springfield, Mass./Science & Technology) won 6-1, 6-2 at #5. Allison Elick (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) followed suit in capturing a 7-5, 6-3 win in the final match of the day at #6.

Allegheny has the following two weeks off from competition as the team prepares for its spring trip to Hilton Head, S.C. from March 16-19. The Gators open against Nebraska Wesleyan at 3:00 p.m. on the 16th.
