Place Sets Record At Sudeck Classic

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Allegheny's men's cross country team opened its 2007 season by placing second at the Bill Sudeck Classic, hosted by Case Western Reserve University on Saturday. Gator senior Ryan Place (Meshoppen, Pa./Elk Lake) followed up an All-American season in 2006 by winning the individual title and setting a new course record for the Blue and Gold.

The Gators had three runners finish in the top 10, including Place with a time of 25.43.00, senior Chris Corkins (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) with a sixth place time of 26:25.00, and freshman Zac Ross (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) with a seventh place finish of 26:27.00.

Sophomore Tony Dipre (Twinsburg, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) placed 15th with a time of 27:21.00 while sophomore Devon Flynnperrault (Lafayette, Calif./Campolindo) finished 17th with a time of 27:22.00 to round out the scoring five for the Gators.

Sophomore Jakeb Zimmerman (Leechburg, Pa./The Kiski School) and senior Tom Lee (Mt. Vernon, Ohio/Mt.Vernon) placed 30th (27:54.00) and 31st (27:55.00) respectively to give the Gators their top seven.

Edinboro won the team title with 27 points, followed by the Gators with 46 points. Case Western (66), Baldwin-Wallace (134), and Oberlin (141) rounded out the top five. A total of 10 institutions competed at the event.

Allegheny next competes on Saturday, September 15 at the St. Olaf Invitational in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the site of the 2007 Division III Nationals.
