Occupation:
Professor of Chemistry, Carnegie Mellon University
Why I serve on the Alumni Council:
To help make Allegheny, in some small way, a better college so that current and future students receive the very best education and preparation for their next chapter in life.
Favorite Allegheny Memory:
Spring time and fellowship at AMDA (Allegheny Men's (and Women's) Dinning Association).
Message for Alumni:
The gift is in giving.
Occupation:
Director of Technology Operations, KeyBank
Why I serve on the Alumni Council:
Allegheny has had a material impact on my life. My values, philosophies, perspectives, skills, and professional direction have all been shaped by the college. Most importantly, Carol and I met at Allegheny (classes of 1980 and 1978 respectively) and married after graduation. Since then, three of our four children have chosen Allegheny for their undergraduate education. I believe it is important to give back, in several ways, to the school that has given us so much.
Favorite Allegheny Memory:
Meeting my wife and the opening of the Pellitier Library.
Message for Alumni:
Allegheny can continue creating extraordinary value for you after you graduate, if you give it your support.
Occupation:
U.S. Department of Education, Management and Program Analyst
Why I serve on the Alumni Council:
I wanted to have an opportunity to give back just a tiny bit of what Allegheny has given me. Allegheny College prepared me for life better than any College I could have envisioned. As a public administration graduate student, I learned that institutions like Allegheny depend on volunteer support and momentum to keep going and grow stronger. I hope that as Council members we are able to support the College's mission, advocate for the College with current and future students, and contribute to its ongoing and future successes.
Favorite Allegheny Memory:
Truly, I cannot even pick one Allegheny memory that is my "favorite." It is the sum of all of the moments—working on student government and student groups, spending late nights in the Art studio, participating on alternative spring break trips, hanging out with friends, attending Allegheny Homecomings and other events, meeting new people, appreciating the amazing faculty and administrators at Allegheny—that make Allegheny what it truly is—an "unusual combination" that was a perfect fit for me.
Message for Alumni:
The Alumni Association, as well as local alumni groups, offer excellent opportunities to stay connected to the College, and, to give back some of what we received while there. Other great opportunities include serving as Mentors, hosting Allegheny interns, or even serving as a guest visitor at an Allegheny class or event. If you are ever interested in participating in any of these programs, projects, or gatherings, please don't hesitate to contact the Alumni Office, or one of the Alumni Council members, to learn more about how you may become involved. Allegheny still needs you!
Occupation:
Membership Outreach Coordinator, The Center for a New American Dream
Why I serve on the Alumni Council:
I know that because of Allegheny I have opportunities ahead of me that not many other college grads have, and for this reason, I have decided to give back to my Alma Mater as much as I can. Serving on the Alumni Council will give me a chance to take on projects that will further the mission of Allegheny and improve the learning communities that thrive here.
Favorite Allegheny Memory:
Some of my favorite memories of Allegheny came at the end of each semester's choral concert. Ward Jamison would always announce just before the end of the program that all current and past members of his choirs were welcome to sing the alma mater in the acoustically rich stairwell outside the choir room. We would pack into it, filling each layer of stairs and landings, and sing the two pieces of music that no choir member will ever forget. I never understood the significance of these moments until I was singing for the final time as a student. The lyrics suddenly became much more meaningful, knowing that the next time I sing them, I will be an alumnus.
"Fair Allegheny, yonder on the hill,
Through all the years, our hearts are turning still
In love to thee, and so they ever will.
Oh Alma Mater, Beatissima."
Message for Alumni:
Allegheny is a special place because of the active and generous group of people that call this place their Alma Mater. You, as alumni, have a great influence on the direction and future success of this institution. Your experience at Allegheny helped to shape you into the person you have become. In that regard, please consider giving back to the institution in whatever way you are able, so that future generations of students can experience this amazing place.

Serving on Alumni Council is a great way for me to give back to Allegheny. Lastly, my time on Alumni Council is a way to honor my dear friends, Dave and Pris Hoag.
Favorite Allegheny Memory:
Too many to pick just one: Sunday night chapter meetings, RA Camp, Run Out, rhododendron in May, Health Psychology junior seminar w/ Dr. Dale, 'Don't Worry, Be Happy' at the Michigan Leadership Conference with Paula Coyle '80 and Dave McInally.

Occupation:

Why I serve on the Alumni Council:
I'm grateful for the many educational (and professional) opportunities that I had at Allegheny. Serving on Council provides me with an opportunity to "give back" to an institution that gave me so much more.
Favorite Allegheny Memory:
My favorite memory as a student was walking on campus on a beautiful spring day admiring the blooms of the rhododendrons. My favorite memory as the College's Dean of Admissions and Enrollment Management was in 2000 (I believe) having our staff achieve the College's highest number of admission applications and enrolling one the most (if not the most) talented new classes to date.
Message for Alumni:
Get involved…visit the new Tippie Alumni Center, attend your reunion, host a student intern, help mentor a student who is thinking about graduate school, or send a "thank you" email to your favorite faculty member!

Currently Director of Major Gifts, Wittenberg University
Formerly Senior Vice President and Senior Trust Officer, Huntington National Bank

Favorite Allegheny Memory:
Hiking the campus with my wife Ruth. Then, a few years later, seeing our daughter Lindsay '08 hiking that same campus.
Occupation:
Boston University School of Law, Class of 2008
Why I serve on the Alumni Council:
Allegheny prepared me better than I could have expected for life after college and I also met many of my closest friends during my time there. I serve on the Alumni Council to give back to Allegheny and help ensure that future students have an experience as enjoyable as mine.
Favorite Allegheny Memory:
My favorite Allegheny memory was playing keyboard with my band Junior and Senior year in Grounds for Change and at different school events.
Message for Alumni:
To the younger alumni—stay connected with Allegheny even though you may not yet be able to support the school financially. There are plenty of other ways to help Allegheny and to stay connected. Attend a regional reunion or holiday gathering, or log into Gator Locator periodically. I can't believe how much is changing on campus, and how many good things are happening at Allegheny every time I return.
