Rachel Dingman

Rachel Dingman (Milford, PA) wanted it all.  She chose to attend Allegheny for the College's diverse opportunities in civic engagement, leadership development and intercollegiate athletics.  Rachel has certainly fulfilled her college aspirations: she's the president of both Allegheny's Hillel and philosophy club, she's involved in many philanthropic efforts through her sorority, and Rachel shines as a member of the varsity swim team (and she also discovered a new love for playing rugby, too).

It's only natural Rachel would choose to double major.  Studying both philosophy and psychology, Rachel recently completed her Senior Project, "The Narrative Theory of Self As Applied to Dissociative Identity Disorder."  Through intensive research, Rachel studied the treatment and diagnosis of patients who have multiple personalities.

When asked about which passion has shaped her most, Rachel talks about her involvement with Allegheny Hillel, where she finds a great "cultural and religious connection" with the community.  Rachel successfully led Hillel's efforts to connect and educate other student organizations.  Recently, Rachel coordinated panel discussions with Students for Environmental Action and the Islamic Awareness Society.  She's also assisted in organizing monthly Shabbat dinners and Allegheny's first Purim Carnival celebration.

As Hillel president, Rachel represented Allegheny at the Spitzer Conference in Washington, D.C., where students discussed topics involving social justice through political activism.  This experience catapulted Rachel's career interest.  After graduation, she plans to work for a non-profit organization focusing on Jewish social action," she says. "Allegheny has given me the opportunity to experiment with my studies and figure out who I am.  I'm world-ready for what's next."

It's our students who make Allegheny College the unique and special place that it is. Allegheny students have such a variety of interests and passions and skills that after a while unusual combinations don't seem so unusual at all. Will Allegheny fit your interests, skills and talents?
