Student Profile

Rachel Dingman

Rachel Dingman (Milford, PA) wanted it all. She chose to attend Allegheny for the College's diverse opportunities in civic engagement, leadership development and intercollegiate athletics. Rachel has certainly fulfilled her college aspirations: she's the president of both Allegheny's Hillel and philosophy club, she's involved in many philanthropic efforts through her sorority, and Rachel shines as a member of the varsity swim team (and she discovered a new love for playing rugby, too). Hillel

Solomon J. Sheena, Hillel AdvisorShalom! As Allegheny College's Hillel advisor, I would like to introduce you to our growing organization. Allegheny's student-driven Hillel reaches all students by sponsoring cultural, religious, educational and social events of all kinds. It provides a safe and supportive community for Jewish students to explore and celebrate their Jewish heritage, strengthen our Jewish community, and discuss issues of mutual concern.

Every year, our students find new and exciting ways to encourage the entire student body to learn more about the Jewish faith. Supported by the Office of Religious Life, Hillel students proudly organize campus-wide celebrations for every Jewish holiday, including high-holiday services, the building of Sukkah, Passover Seder, lunch discussions and much more. Hillel has invited speakers from as far away as Poland and the Netherlands, sponsored performances by comedians from both Jewish and Muslim faiths, and raised money for several community projects.

It is an exciting time to be a part of Hillel. Over the past six years, Allegheny's Jewish student body has more than doubled in size. Every year the number of students who attend our events increases, bringing together a variety of religious and cultural backgrounds. And, most recently, Rabbi Ron Bernstein-Goff has joined the Allegheny faculty. His presence has greatly enriched not only the curriculum but also the lives of our Jewish students.

Hillel provides the support you expect from Allegheny, allowing our students to explore all of their interests and passions. We hope you will plan to join us!

Sincerely,

Solomon J. Sheena
