Especially for Students

The financial savings earned by reduced energy expenses may seem hidden to you because you aren't directly "paying for it".

But when you save energy, you are helping the College to provide you with a better educational experience.

The cost of energy is paid for through your tuition and when this cost is reduced, the College has more resources for the student.

How can you save energy?

Partnership for Energy Performance (PEP)

Background

Allegheny College and the Meadville Medical Center joined forces to negotiate a contract with Vestar, Inc., a national energy service company, to develop and implement the Energy Savings Project. Vestar, Inc. aims to evaluate energy use and install environmentally responsible equipment in both institutions.

This venture marks the start of a unique collaboration between the health care and higher education industries. While hospitals and colleges have cooperated within their own industries to confront similar pressures, joint ventures that cross industry boundaries have been rare. However, because many hospitals and colleges coexist in small communities across the country, the collaboration between the Medical Center and the College will serve as an example of the opportunities such cooperation holds.

Benefits

P.E.P. LogoPartnership for Energy Performance (PEP)

An expansion of the Energy Savings Project of the College and the Meadville Medical Center, the Partnership for Energy Performance aims to extend the advantages of energy conservation and efficiency with the entire Meadville community. The Partnership will allow multiple partners, including community businesses, institutions and industries, to save both energy and money.

Through a strategic process, the benefits and savings from this process will be used to improve the environmental and economic well being of Meadville and the surrounding area. The Meadville Community Energy Project (MCEP) is spearheading the effort to expand this partnership to other local organizations in order to share information, develop opportunities for local contractors and vendors and build a sense of community while reinvesting capital into the local economy.
