Allegheny College invites applications and nominations for the Assistant Director of Diversity Affairs. A private, selective liberal arts college in Western Pennsylvania, Allegheny has long recognized the deep educational relevance of cultural diversity--in its classrooms, on its campus and through its relations to the world.
The Assistant Director of Diversity Affairs, in collaboration with the Director, will work with students, faculty, staff and administrators to develop, continue and increase the embodiment of diversity and social justice education. The Assistant Director provides support to underrepresented populations and will work as part of a cohesive team to address such topics as student programming, retention, and diversity education.
Other specific responsibilities include advising and/or supporting student groups, work study management, assisting in the development of the social justice living learning community, general program planning, attending designated student affairs committees, coordinating general administrative duties and helping to coordinate interaction among alumni, current students and prospective students of color.
Preference will be given to candidates with an advanced degree plus 2 years additional diversity experience beyond graduate work. Two years of Multicultural Affairs/Student Activities advising and event planning highly desired. Preference will also be given to candidates with experience in diversity/social justice facilitation.
Demonstrated understanding of identity development, deep knowledge of issues facing underrepresented populations, and the ability to work in a multicultural environment are essential.
