Financial Services Office

The Financial Services Office, located in Bentley Hall, is responsible for maintaining student accounts regarding tuition billing, room and board, miscellaneous fees, payments, financial aid disbursements, and refunds of excess funds, when applicable.

Deposit Information

After you accept your offer to attend Allegheny College, you will be contacted by the Financial Services Office. You will receive a letter that explains your bill, including charges and pending aid.

All new Allegheny students are required to make a pre-matriculation deposit of $400 to hold their place in the freshman class. After the student matriculates, this money is held by the College as a general deposit to indicate that the student plans to return to Allegheny for each succeeding academic year or semester. It also continues to obligate the College to reserve a place for that student.

The student is expected to notify the Office of the Dean of Students in writing if he or she intends to withdraw from the College. This is done by July 1 prior to the start of the Fall Semester, and one week prior to the first official day of classes for the Spring Semester. Failure to give such notification by these deadlines results in the forteiture of $200 of the deposit.

This deposit is similar to a security deposit and does not offset student account charges. When the student graduates or leaves Allegheny, the deposit will be placed on the student's account. Any balance of the deposit held by the College (after any outstanding charges have been deducted) is refundable after graduation or withdrawal from the College.

Tuition Bill

Bills are prepared early July for fall semester and early December for spring semester. Tuition, room and board charges are included on the bill, as well as general fees. Bills are prepared on a monthly basis.

Additional Financial Aid

The Pending Aid section on your Tuition Bill shows your current known available aid. If you have additional scholarships, grants, or loans, please refer to the Office of Financial Aid.

Tuition Bill Payment Options

Payment of tuition and fees or payment plan set-up (TMS) is due prior to the first day of each semester.

You may pay by credit card (Mastercard, Discover, American Express) through TMS at www.afford.com/alleg. A Convenience Fee will be charged for credit card payments. Allegheny College cannot accept credit card payments directly.

Under Allegheny's Full Payment Plan, a discount is provided when a full year's charges are paid in full by the due date. Students are eligiible if they are receiving no financial aid or only a merit-based scholarship from the College. Students must also be enrolled full-time, live in College housing, and participate in meal plans.

If you wish to mail a check, please print the student ID number on the check and mail it to Allegheny College, Box 9, Meadville, PA 16335. Your payment must be received by the due date on your bill to avoid a Late Payment Fee. Please allow time for processing (5 - 7 days).

Payment Plan

The Allegheny Tuition Payment Plan administered by Tuition Management Systems (TMS) is recommended to help you budget payment of your educational expenses and limit your debt. The payment plan runs from August through December for the fall semester and January through May for the spring semester. This is an interest free plan which is available to everyone. To enroll, visit the TMS website or call toll free 1-800-722-4867. There is a $45 fee to participate in this convenient payment option each semester, or you can enroll in the Annual Plan for $80. The Annual Plan covers both fall and spring semesters.

Refunds of Excess Financial Aid

Allegheny will refund a Federal financial aid credit balance in a student's account within two weeks of either the date the aid was credited to the student's account or the first day of the semester, whichever is later.

Allegheny Student e-mail Account

As a new student, you will receive an Allegheny College e-mail account. Important information from the Financial Services Office, as well as other departments, will be communicated to you via e-mail so you will need to view it on a regular basis. Please contact Computing's User Services with any questions that you may have (814)332-2755.

Allegheny ID Card (AllCard)

All students are provided with an Allegheny AllCard, Allegheny's photo ID. This card serves both as a permanent picture identification card and as a way to access numerous campus services, including the meal plan. All students are required to have a permanent College ID. The card may be used only by the individual to whom it is registered and is non-transferable.
