How to Reapply for Financial Aid for 2008-2009
Dependent Students

1. FAFSA: Deadline March 15, 2008

Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or renewal FAFSA with the U.S. Department of Education electronically at www.fafsa.ed.gov after January 1, 2008 but before March 15, 2008. The FAFSA serves as the official financial aid application for all federal, state and institutional need-based programs. Both the student and a parent must have their own Federal Student Aid PIN (www.pin.ed.gov) to sign the FAFSA electronically.

Supporting Documentation due in the Office of Financial Aid by April 1, 2008 (if verification is required)

• Dependent Student Verification Statement 2008-2009
  Available on www.allegheny.edu/administration/finaid or at the Financial Aid Office in Schultz Hall. This form requires both student and a parent signature.
• 2007 Federal Tax Returns
  Signed copies of parents' and student's 2007 Federal 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ. A Declaration of Electronic Filing (Form 8453) is NOT a tax return, request a copy of your tax return from your tax preparer or print one from your software. If a copy of a tax return is not available and you cannot print a copy, please call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and request a transcript of your tax return. You must sign your transcript before sending it to the Office of Financial Aid. This will substitute for a signed copy of the tax return when applying for financial aid.
• Tax Extension (Form 4868)
  If either the parent or student is requesting a tax extension for 2007 from the federal government, mail a copy of the tax extension request and parents' W-2's to the Office of Financial Aid by the April 1 due date. Mail a signed copy of the completed tax return as soon as possible. Your Federal Stafford Loan will not be available to you until we receive a copy of your parents' 2007 federal tax return.
• W-2 Wage Statements
  Mail copies of all parents' W-2 wage statements for 2007 to the Office of Financial Aid. These should be stapled to the corresponding tax return, tax extension request, or Statement of Non-Filing form.
• Social Security Benefit Statements
  Showing yearly totals for everyone in the household receiving benefits.

If your parent is not required to file a federal income tax return for 2007, please request a Parent Statement of Non-Filing form available from the Office of Financial Aid. In lieu of a tax return, this form must be completed and mailed to the Office of Financial Aid by the April 1, 2008 due date.

Resources are limited and the deadlines stated above are very important. Only completed applications received by April 1, 2008 will be guaranteed consideration for funding. Verification of the required financial information will determine financial aid for the 2008-2009 academic year. Financial aid awards will be mailed to returning students early in June of 2008.
