The talented musicians of the Erie Philharmonic, under the baton of conductor Daniel Meyer, will perform with special guest artist Alec Chien.
As music director of the Erie Philharmonic, the Asheville Symphony, and the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony, as well as resident conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony, Daniel Meyer is recognized as one of the top young conductors of his generation. Alec Chien, artist in residence and professor of music at Allegheny College, is not only a favorite with local audiences but has performed to critical and audience acclaim around the world. Both musicians are known for their commitment to music education and young audiences.
The program will include Arturs Maskats' Tango; the Saint-Saëns Piano Concerto No. 2 with Alec Chien, piano; and Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances.

In 1988 Steinway produced its 500,000th piano. Steinway artist and Allegheny College artist in residence Alec Chien was given what he called "the opportunity of a lifetime" when he performed a special concert on that piano at Allegheny in 1990. Now we all have an opportunity to hear Dr. Chien play that historic piano again, in a special concert in Shafer Auditorium.
