Opportunities

There are a number of opportunities for students to become involved with diversity and social justice issues at Allegheny College. Interested students have opportunities for both academic programs and involvement in organizations and committees outside of the classroom. Students can choose from a variety of academic programs related to diversity. These include the following:

Religious Studies
Women's Studies
Asian Studies
Black Studies
Lesbian and Gay Studies
Latin American and Carribean Studies
Values, Ethics and Social Action (VESA)
To see a full listing of all the offered minors please visit http://www.allegheny.edu/academics/minors.php.

The diversity organizations (A5, AGP, ABC, UL and IC) encourage and welcome all members of the campus community to become involved.

These five organizations sponsor awareness campaigns over the course of the academic year in an effort to raise an awareness and appreciation for diversity and social justice. Each organization works to provide educational and dynamic speakers while also offering a variety of social events. Although the Office of Diversity Affairs supports these celebrations, each organization is responsible for creating and implementing their events.

These awareness campaigns and their respective months are:
October - Latino Heritage Month
Week of October 11th - National Coming Out Day
November - International Club Month
February - Black History Month
April - Asian Awareness Month
Mid-April - National Day of Silence/Blue Jeans Day (LGBT Awareness)

Student groups can also raise awareness about diversity issues by scheduling an Ourspace.Comm program. If you are interested in this opportunity for your organization, please go to http://www.allegheny.edu/administration/wellness/ourspace.php for more information.
