What is the Senior Class Gift?
The Senior Class Gift is a donation given by graduating seniors to the College's Annual Fund. Gifts made to the Annual Fund go directly into the operating budget of the College to underwrite its ongoing and vital expenses. These expenses include scholarships, library books, equipment for labs, stipends for internships, research and comp presentations, student organizations and athletic programs, facility renovations and so much more.
Why Should I Give?
Every member of the student body benefits directly from the philanthropic efforts of our alumni. Tuition only covers two-thirds of the actual cost of an Allegheny education. Each gift to the Annual Fund helps to make up the difference between what students pay and what they receive. If you can answer "yes" to any of the following questions, you benefit from these gifts!
Basically, every activity that takes places under the name of Allegheny College is supported by the Annual Fund!
We have also dedicated the Senior Circle as a way for graduating classes to be recognized for their gifts. Next year, your class will be added to the circle. The classes with record participation or dollars raised are recognized in the circle with special symbols. In this way, each graduating class is really in competition all classes preceding them!
What is the Annual Fund?
The Annual Fund is the cornerstone of all fundraising for the College. It provides immediate financial support to programs throughout the College and allows students and alumni to exercise their philanthropic ideals. Support for the Annual Fund is vital for Allegheny to continue to grow, prosper and rise amongst competitive institutions.
By giving to the Annual Fund, you have a direct impact on the College. Many foundations and corporations decide, in part, to give grants to the College based upon the percentage of alumni who donate to the Annual Fund. Because you participate in the act of giving back to the College, you are enhancing its reputation, ensuring its continued success and—most importantly to soon-to-be graduates—strengthening your Allegheny degree.
How Do I Give?
The most important gift is one from your own pocket. Even if you can only afford to give $5 or $25, demonstrating your belief in this institution by investing in its future is priceless. However, we understand that some of you can't currently afford to give outright, so we make it easy for you! When you matriculated at Allegheny, you made a $300 deposit.
