Geography of the Holy Land
Description:
The course will examine the religious, political, cultural, physical and environmental features of both Israel and Jordan. Students will travel to current and proposed U.N. World Heritage sites to experience for themselves the power of locations that have been the center of the world's focus for more than two millennia: the ancient city of Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, Sea of Galilee, Jordan River, the desert wilderness near Sinai, and Petra. Students will meet with Jews, Christians, and Muslims, historians, politicians and environmentalists so they can develop a deeper understanding of the historical roots of religious conflict and contemporary challenges imposed by a shared regional water crisis. Ensuring security for all travelers will be a paramount focus throughout the course.
