Building the CBR Program

Statement of Work

This program will partner Allegheny College students and faculty to conduct community-based research projects that are initiated by community partners. Faculty members, whose academic expertise and research interest suggest community connections, will be solicited as potential project supervisors.

Community agencies and organizations will propose research projects through a Request for Proposal (RFP) process. Faculty who have agreed to list their research areas will review proposals and write a "statement of interest" for those that they deem feasible for students. A five member review panel comprised of community members and faculty will award mini-grants of $2,000 to the strongest proposals that have received a faculty project supervisor.

Students will conduct the Community-Based Research over a one or two semester period as a Senior Comprehensive project, an Independent Study or as part of an existing academic course. The results will be presented in a written form for dissemination to the community partners.
