Jeremy Beh
Greenville, Pennsylvania
Major: Mathematics
Minor: History
Jeremy Beh decided to come to Allegheny because he thought it was the one college that would give him “the best of both worlds”—academics and athletics.
Jeremy says he wasn’t sure what he wanted to major in when he entered Allegheny, but his advisors helped him realize that he should do what he does best. So when he’s not tackling opponents with the College’s Gators on the football field, he’s busy calculating math problems off the field.
“Math has always been easier for me,” he says. “It
has always clicked better than any other classes I have taken.”
But when he does need help, it’s there. “The doors to my professors’
offices are always open,” he adds. “Every time I go to professors
with a question, they are willing to take the time to help me figure things
out.”
Jeremy, a member of the campus math group Dimensions, has an interest in law enforcement, but is also considering a career in engineering or actuarial science.
How would a major in math help someone going into law enforcement? According to Jeremy, “If you can master the logic and analytical skills of math, then you can learn just about anything.” He notes that in a liberal arts setting, a math major’s education isn’t restricted to numbers and Greek symbols. “I feel my education at Allegheny will prepare me for just about any career path,” he says.
“One of my favorite things about Allegheny is that it provides an environment for me to work with many fun and intelligent people.”
